College Senior Lands Job at Silicon Valley Startup by Posting iShareTunes App to iTunes Store.
When Chris Beauchamp, 22, posted iShareTunes to the iTunes App Store, the Clemson University senior didn't expect it to land him a job in Silicon Valley. But that's exactly what it did.
SAN MATEO, CA, May 20, 2010 /Bloggin and Social Media PR News/ -- Today, Servo Software, Inc. officially launched iShareTunes, a free application for sharing music on the iPad and iPhone. Available now in the iTunes App Store, iShareTunes lets users easily share and discover songs with friends and family via Twitter and Facebook, as well as text messaging and email. The company also announced that Beauchamp will be joining Servo as Lead iPhone Developer when he graduates from Clemson.
"It started as a streamlined way to get a song from my iPod to my friends and turned into a great opportunity to partner with Servo to build a killer app," said Beauchamp. "iShareTunes initially focused on one-touch usability, and we are molding it into a more complete and fun experience, while maintaining the same 'pick up and go' feel. 1. Download iShareTunes from the iTunes App Store to your iPad or iPhone.
2. Launch the app and share the currently playing song to Twitter and Facebook friends.
3. Discover new songs and what others have recently shared.
iShareTunes lets users share any song currently playing on their iPad or iPhone to their Twitter or Facebook feed. For example, the post might read "@mikojava is listening to 'Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For' by U2 http://bit.ly/d88z7I." Users can also copy the song link to send to friends via text message or email. Friends can follow the link to listen to the song.
To discover new music, users can scroll through a live feed of recently shared songs, popular songs, or a random selection across the iShareTunes community and listen to any of the songs found there.
Unlike most iPhone apps that don't take advantage of the iPad format, iShareTunes has customized versions for both iPad and iPhone, which automatically result in the use of the full available resolution and improved layout for iPad users.
From South Carolina to Silicon Valley
Beauchamp, a computer science major, developed iShareTunes because he wanted a fast, easy way to share music with his friends and family. At the same time, Servo Software was looking for a platform for developing new forms of mobile content sharing and discovery.
Starting with a message typed into Chris' website, and many texts and voice chats later, Servo eventually flew Chris out to their headquarters in San Mateo. After agreeing to work together on iShareTunes, the company also negotiated an employment agreement with Beauchamp, who will join Servo in Silicon Valley after he graduates from South Carolina's Clemson this year.
"Through his passion for apps, Chris forged his own career path," said Matsumura. "We didn't need to read his resume to see if he could do the job. He was already doing it before we got there."
